At first, I took this as a true representation of a band having a really off night. It happens sometimes, and I have never heard of shredding before, so I stopped watching after less than a minute. After some detective work, I found that Shredding is a new video meme which is parody. It’s like a love child of Spinal Tap and Tenacious D.
In Stanford University’s words, “A parody is a work that ridicules another, usually well-known work, by imitating it in a comic way.” That definition fits the Shredding videos as tightly as spandex stretches over Derek Smalls’ foil-wrapped cucumber… Unlike other forms of fair use, a fairly extensive use of the original work is permitted in a parody in order to “conjure up” the original.
Apparently there’s been a lot of these removed by YT, spurred by folks with no sense of humor.
