As inspired by a post by Ransom Riggs a week or so ago, here’s my favorite sequence from one of the movies that really changed my perspective, Koyaanisqatsi (a Hopi word meaning ‘life out of balance’). The song, by Phillip Glass, is called “Pruit Igoe”.
Truly a one of a kind experience, that film. In my mind, I immediately thought it would make a great video postcard to tell alien intelligence what life on this planet is like. Apparently Roger Ebert made a similar remark about Baraka, a kind of Koyaanisqatsi wannabe I saw in theater. It was cool, but not quite as cool as the first, the original.
